Rest In Peace, Mary Connor
Posted by Dan Cohen on July 19, 2015 at 10:58 PM

Today South Orange firefighters lowered the Village flags to half staff to honor the passing of Mary Connor, matriarch of the South Orange Rescue Squad. After joining the Rescue Squad in 1969 Mary dedicated more than 40 years of her life in service to the Rescue Squad and our community; many of those as President of the Squad.

In honor of her more than four decades of dedication and service to our community, The South Orange Rescue Squad will dedicate our new headquarters building in her memory.

Rest In Peace Mary. You are missed.

We have won the $25,000 Neighborhood Assist Grant from State Farm. Thank you very much for all of your help in getting us there.

More than 4,000 applications were submitted and from those we were chosen to be in the top 200. It was then the support of the community that pushed us to the top of the list and ensured that we were among the top 40 causes-- each of which will get a $25,000 grant.

During what felt like 3 endless weeks of voting, we were blown away by the way the community rallied around us to push us over the top. Thank you! This is a much needed grant and will be put to very good use so that we can continue to provide the residents of South Orange and Maplewood with free Emergency Medical care.

Help re-build the South Orange Rescue Squad- buy a brick!
Posted by Dan Cohen on September 30, 2014 at 2:46 PM

The South Orange Rescue Squad was headquartered on Third Street since 1970. Recently that land was sold to make room for the new Third and Valley development project... and our headquarters was bulldozed in the process.

We are about to embark on a major endeavor-- rebuilding our headquarters building on Sloan Street next to the Fire Department-- but we need your help.  The developer who took over our lot made a contribution as payment for our old building, but it is not enough to build the new one.

It is estimated that we need to raise another $100,000 to complete the project.

In order to help raise money for the construction, we are selling engraved bricks that will become permanent parts of the two pathways leading to the building. We will also be selling engraved tiles to line the walls inside the front entrance.  These personalized bricks and tiles will be laser engraved with the inscription of your choice and are perfect for honoring your family name, celebrating a precious memory,  memorializing a loved one or just showing your business or family's support for the South Orange Rescue Squad.

Your personalized text and image will be a part of our building forever. You can also upload your own logo / clip art to be used-- email for more info.

Rescue Squad asks Investors Savings Bank for loan, gets a grant

Big thanks to Investors Savings Bank which has long been a big supporter of the South Orange Rescue Squad.

When we needed money to purchase new ambulances, we approached Investors for a loan.

Instead, they offered a $25,000 grant which went towards the purchase of two used ambulances.

The ambulances now proudly display the Investors Bank logo as a symbol of our thanks for their ongoing support.
