The Rescue Squad Remembers September 11, 2001

The South Orange Rescue Squad commemorated the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on New York City by participating in a morning event at the South Orange Fire Department and an evening event at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. The anniversary called to mind the participation of the Rescue Squad on that terrible day.

Soon after the attacks began, the Rescue Squad was contacted by New Jersey emergency management officials and asked to provide an ambulance and personnel to respond to Liberty State Park. The intention was to assist in treatment of injured that were expected to be coming from New York City by ferry. As we know now, there was little need for us that morning.

Two days later, the Rescue Squad joined a caravan of ambulances that journeyed to the World Trade Center site and treated rescue workers.

We're very proud that our organization had a small role in the events of those days and especially proud of those members who volunteer to respond.
