Friends & Family
American Heart Association "Friends & Family CPR”
If you are looking to learn CPR for your own education, the Friends & Family CPR class may be the right fit for you. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.
This course does not offer an AHA certification card. However, students receive a class participation card with their Family & Friends CPR Student Manual. This course is ideal for community groups, parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others interested in learning how to save a life.
The class is approximately 90 minutes. There is no written or skills test for Friends & Family CPR. It is not as detailed as classes that provide a certification card. The Friends & Family CPR class costs $40 per student and includes the cost of a student manual.
Friends & Family CPR Course Content:
Adult Hands-Only CPR and AED
Adult CPR with Breaths
Child CPR and AED
Infant CPR
Mild and Severe Airway Block: How to Help a Choking Adult, Child, & Infant
We informally add into the course some general tips, such as when to call 911, what information to share with the 911 operator, and other tips from your neighborhood rescue squad.
Our on-site CPR classes are taught at our headquarters on Sloan Street. The training room is on the second floor and is not ADA-accessible.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require kneeling, bending, standing, and lifting.
If you have any physical conditions that might prevent these activities, please inform one of the facilitators. The facilitator may be able to adjust the equipment to accommodate you.
Classes are open to anyone 12 years old and up. It is a serious classroom environment that teaches life-saving techniques and skills.
